Digital footprints

In my year 9 class a few weeks back we watched a few videos online about managing our digital footprints - making sure we know what information and images we are leaving behind us online, and keeping it appropriate. Below are some of the ideas that the girls came up with...I'm very proud of how perceptive they are.

Cyber-Citizenship

Watch this clip, Edtalks: 2010 Ten trends: Cyber citizenship with Derek Wenmoth, Director of CORE Education, discussing digital citizenship. He explains that responsible digital citizens need to be respectful and act appropriately with information in an online world. He suggests it is necessary for teachers to have direct experience of the online environment to teach students effectively about responsible cyber behaviour.

This is included in the Digital Citizenship PLD modules on TKI.

Problem solving approach

This week in maths we worked on developing our problem solving skills, using the method on the right, kindly shared by Carol. My students need to use these strategies to solve the 1.1 number problems assessment in maths.

The pictures below were created by Mr Morgan's class, who are studying tapa cloth. they used drawing tools in MS word (or OpenOffice) on their netbooks to create repeating patterns based on natural shapes and colours.

Computing words in Te Reo Maori

I made these posters to help my students pick up a wee bit of reo that they can use in the classroom. I like how they came out, but unfortunately I still can't seem to remember the words myself, darn it!

...anyway, they are creative commons attribute share alike, and available on my facebook page.

Cybercitizenship

This great cybercitizenship presentation comes from Tessa Gray of Core Education. It is designed to have a speaker alongside it, but has plenty of self-guided info, too.

Exploratree

I just explored exploratree.org.uk and was very impressed - I can use some of their thinking tools ready-made, or tailor them to suit myself and my classes. Well worth a look for teachers planning their courses for next year!
